Radiesse

Part of the natural aging process includes a decline in the amount of collagen in the skin. One way to describe collagen is as the “scaffolding” that supports the skin, so depleted collagen becomes visibly apparent in the form of deepening lines and loss of volume. RADIESSE® is a calcium based filler that helps immediately improve more pronounced wrinkles while promoting the production of new collagen at the same time for long-term results.

A board certified plastic surgeon serving Chicago and the neighboring suburbs, Dr. Otto Placik uses dermal fillers like RADIESSE® to improve the facial contours and diminish lines and wrinkles. Dr. Placik offers a variety of medical spa treatments for men and women who want to look younger without surgery.

Please contact us online or call our Chicago or Arlington Heights plastic surgery offices for more information on RADIESSE® and other injectable fillers, including prices.

About RADIESSE®

Collagen is arguably the most important structural component of the skin, providing the underlying framework that gives youthful skin its firm tone and texture. One reason injectable fillers have become so popular is because they effectively counteract the deep furrows that commonly appear as a result of depleted collagen, without the need for surgery.

Loss of collagen and elastic contribute to the sagging of facial structures and fat deposits which present as lower eyelid bags, cheek hollows, jowls, marionette lines, smile lines, “parentheses deformity” and thinning lips. Other visible signs of aging and facial laxity are associated with loss of bone volume in the cheeks and jawline.

RADIESSE® Volumizing Filler adds the volume and lift needed to fill in wrinkles and restore firmness to the skin. Beyond correcting wrinkles in areas of the face that have experienced age-related volume loss, RADIESSE® also serves as a catalyst for the production of new collagen, further enhancing skin tone and texture from within.

The patented formula in RADIESSE® contains calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) microspheres that are suspended in a water-based gel-like solution. When the gel is injected, it creates instant volume within the treatment area and quickly minimizes lines and wrinkles. Over time, the calcium microspheres encourage new collagen generation in and around the injection site. Eventually, the body metabolizes and absorbs the microspheres, but the new collagen remains to reinforce the support structure of the skin.

Dr. Placik injects RADIESSE in Chicago using a fine needle, typically focusing on one of several areas in the lower part of the face including smile lines, marionette lines and the jowl area. A series of injections is required in a single session in order to distribute RADIESSE® evenly in the treatment area for the best results. Many patients elect to combine RADIESSE® with other injectables such as BOTOX® Cosmetic for fine lines and dynamic wrinkles through the upper face at the same time. Patients concerned about the injection process can request that lidocaine be mixed with RADIESSE® to reduce the potential for any discomfort.

The unique firmness and cohesive nature of RADIESSE® allow it to be used to simulate facial implants and augment the facial bone structure. The versatility of RADIESSE® can accomplish results that are known as the nonsurgical nose job or rhinoplasty, nonsurgical cheek implants, nonsurgical chin implants, hand rejuvenation and much more.

After your Chicago RADIESSE treatment session, you may experience mild tenderness, itching, swelling or bruising at the injection site, although these typically resolve on their own within a few days. The results from RADIESSE® are visible almost immediately after treatment and can last up to a year or more for many patients.

Radiesse FAQ

Am I a good candidate?

The best candidates for RADIESSE® are in good health overall and would like to see improvement in lines and folds around the mouth, chin and jaw line. RADIESSE® is not appropriate for patients with a history of anaphylaxis or other severe allergies. The FDA has approved RADIESSE® for men and women over the age of 18, although the effects have not been established for women who are pregnant or nursing. Patients should have realistic expectations about what kind of results RADIESSE® can deliver, which Dr. Placik will discuss with you during your consultation.

Where can RADIESSE® be injected?

RADIESSE® is most commonly used in specific target areas through the lower face:

  • Nasolabial Folds or “Laugh Lines”: The folds that run from the corners of the mouth to the corners of the nose
  • Marionette Lines: The fine lines that develop downward from the corners of the mouth
  • Oral Commissure: The lines that turn downward at the corner of the mouth and cause a look of permanent frowning
  • Pre-Jowl: The areas on both sides of the chin that can appear saggy due to age-related volume loss
  • Chin Wrinkles: Lines that form horizontally on the chin
  • Nose: A nonsurgical nose job can camouflage depressions and irregularities of the nasal contours, including a low set bridge, and produce the illusion of a straight nose
  • Cheeks: Nonsurgical cheek implants and augmentation of upper facial width and the malar region for those who want a fuller cheek “apple”
  • Chin: Nonsurgical chin implant and increased projection which when performed with malar augmentation will help to achieve “heart” shaped facial contours as well as enhancement of jaw line and lower facial width
How much does RADIESSE® cost?

The cost of a RADIESSE® treatment session will be determined by the amount of filler needed, so the price will vary by patient depending on the number and size of the treatment areas. Since most men and women only need one RADIESSE® treatment to meet their cosmetic goals, and results from one treatment typically last for at least a year, RADIESSE® can prove more cost-effective compared to other dermal fillers. Dr. Placik and his staff strive to provide excellent value and can help you with financing to make your treatment even more affordable.

Will it be obvious that I’ve had RADIESSE® injections?

RADIESSE® delivers beautiful, subtle results that should not look obviously altered or surgical. The skin and tissue in the treatment area will appear smoother and more youthful, with more firmness and with less noticeable wrinkles. Most people ask if you’ve just returned from a vacation or are doing something different with your diet or exercise routine.

What are the risks?

The potential side effects of RADIESSE® treatments include mild to moderate swelling, itching or bruising at the injection site. For patients who do experience these side effects, relief usually occurs within 24 hours after treatment. Dr. Placik will discuss the potential for more serious side effects with you at your consultation, although these are rare.
