The forehead can show lines and wrinkling as we age, and the skin may sag. While a traditional Chicago brow lift is an option to correct these problems, not everyone wants or needs this surgical procedure.

An alternative is a Botox brow lift. This non-surgical procedure treats the brow to reduce lines and wrinkles.

Chicago Botox injections block some of the chemical signals from nerves, including those that make the tiny face muscles contract. Botox can be used to relax face muscles to provide a temporary, younger appearance.

Another benefit is it raises the eyebrows to make you look more awake or alert. This lets your forehead muscles pull up the muscles relaxed by the Botox injections.

Your surgeon also can inject Botox into the ends of your eyebrows to relax those muscles too. That way, your forehead muscles are pulled up, as well.

Also, having Botox injected into the brows can prevent new wrinkles from developing around the eyes and forehead. And it prevents wrinkles you have from getting more pronounced.

How much lift you can get with a Botox brow lift varies, depending on how old you are and the muscle tone in your brows.

Patients with frown lines between their eyebrows may benefit from a Botox brow lift because it can smooth brow wrinkles without surgery.

While a traditional brow lift is preferred for some patients, the procedure comes with a higher risk of complications, such as:

  • Hair loss around the incisions
  • Scars
  • Pain and headaches from the procedure

What Causes Frown Lines?

As we age, the face begins to show wrinkles and lines. While simple aging and collagen loss in the skin is the culprit, other things cause wrinkles and frown lines:

  • Sun damage from UV rays, which lead to fine lines and deep wrinkles
  • Smoking
  • Genetics
  • Stress
  • Alcohol
  • Excessive frowning and squinting

Botox Brow Lift Procedure

One of the benefits of this procedure is it’s relatively simple and doesn’t require surgery. Your doctor will apply a numbing cream to the skin and then inject Botox into several parts of the brow to relax the muscles there.

The surgeon also may inject Botox below the eyebrows and between the eyes.

Which muscles will be injected depends on your anatomy and the nature of your frown lines and wrinkles.

For example, if you have low, droopy brows, the surgeon will inject the procerus muscle between the brows and a small amount of Botox in the muscles around the eyes. This will pull down the end of the brow.

Some patients also need injections in the upper forehead to relax those muscles, which also pulls up the brows.

Who Is A Good Candidate For A Botox Brow Lift?

Botox is a popular option to temporarily reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Men and women patients with moderate frown lines and wrinkling in the brows can benefit from this procedure.

Most people who want a Botox brow lift for their frown lines have tried over-the-counter products that haven’t worked. However, this procedure works well for those with sagging brow skin that can be fixed with muscle lifting done with Botox injections.

You may also consider an Chicago eyelid lift at the same time to make the eyes look wider and more alert. Finally, if you are interested in permanent results in the face, consider a Chicago facelift or Chicago neck lift.

Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding may not be good candidates; the toxins in Botox injections can harm the fetus.

How To Prepare For A Botox Brow Lift

This isn’t a surgical procedure, but it’s still recommended not to use blood thinners, such as aspirin or Aleve, for about a week before having Botox injections.

You also shouldn’t take fish oil, vitamin E, or St. John’s wort for a week before your Botox brow lift. Also, don’t drink alcohol for two days before having the treatment.

Botox Brow Lift Recovery

A significant advantage of this procedure is it has little downtime. After Botox injections, you may experience mild swelling and bruising in the injected area. But most patients can go back to work the same day.

Note that you shouldn’t lie flat or bend for four hours after having a Botox brow lift. Plus, doctors say you shouldn’t exercise for 24 hours.

A Botox brow lift is an effective procedure to treat wrinkles and lines on and between the brows. It also can elevate your brow height to give you a more awake appearance.

Note that while this procedure is safe and effective, it isn’t a permanent solution for frown lines. The effects of Botox fade after three or four months, so you will need touch-up injections.

But this is a fantastic way to achieve smoother, younger-looking brows without surgery, so talk to your surgeon today about a Botox brow lift.
