Restylane is a non-animal based, biodegradable injectable filler. Treatments are effective for six months to a year, and no allergy testing is required. Restylane is soft, but holds its shape and does not lump, making it perfect for reducing wrinkles around your mouth and nose or plumping your lips.
Restylane, like Hylaform and Juvederm is made from hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance which lubricates the joints and tissues in your body. No allergy testing is required because it is not an animal-based product. Over time it is absorbed by your body, and you can have repeat treatments to maintain your look right away.
Since the results are temporary and you can have repeat treatments at any time, you have the opportunity to adjust your look, and accommodate the natural changes of your face.
Restylane is made from a natural substance, and its yielding but firm consistency helps give you a very natural look. It can be used to smooth wrinkles and restore youthful plumpness throughout your face, reduce the appearance of acne scars, and works particularly well in the lips and around the mouth and nose.
Restylane can be used alone or in combination with other treatments, such as BOTOX.
The Restylane Procedure
As with other injectable fillers, the entire treatment takes about half an hour, and you can resume your normal activities immediately after the procedure.
- Topical numbing cream is applied to the area
- Small amounts of Restylane are injected under the skin into precise areas
- You have the opportunity to give feedback and Dr. Placik can make adjustments accordingly
- Full results are seen in about one week
Recovery
There is no real recovery time necessary. After your Restylane treatment you can expect some swelling, which will resolve in a few days. You may experience some pain, but should not have significant pain. You must stay out of the sun for a few days, but otherwise you can resume your normal activities right away. Some patients even go back to work directly from our office after treatment.
