Throughout the years there have been several plastic surgery trends that have taken over the media and dictated what the currently popular “look” should be. A few years ago it was Jennifer Lopez who women wanted to emulate for her voluptuous curves, while most recently, Kate Middleton has been the “it” celebrity, revered for her thin, shapely nose. As the trends change, so do plastic surgery requests. Here at Body Sculptor in Chicago, IL, Dr. Otto Placik has seen patients who have wanted everything from Angelina Jolie’s lips to Michelle Obama’s arms, but while most of our plastic surgery patients who come in requesting a specific celebrity’s “look” are women, an increasing number of men are also becoming more open about undergoing cosmetic treatments.

But while male plastic surgery is rising in popularity, it isn’t every day that a male patient actually admits he wants to resemble any celebrity, let alone admit to spending thousands of dollars to do so. Yet, aspiring actor Nicholas Ryan didn’t mind sharing his experiences on the road to look like actor Ryan Gosling or how much he spent in the process.

Ryan opted to undergo a two-hour cosmetic procedure that included Botox and fillers in hopes of transforming himself into “The Notebook” heartthrob. What he wanted most was to attain a more defined chin, squared and striking the way Gosling’s is, and paid $5,000 to get it.

But alas, there can only be one Ryan Gosling, and despite his best attempts, Ryan didn’t come close to capturing the Gosling look. However, he is still thrilled with his results and ultimately, ended up looking great.

Chicago Botox and Chicago facial fillers can help patients achieve more contour in the face, especially around the chin and cheek bones. And because these aren’t permanent cosmetic solutions, patients don’t have to worry about whether they change their minds or not. As far as Botox goes, treatments last anywhere between four to six months and treatments need to be repeated in order to maintain the desired appearance. Fillers are semi-permanent, lasting anywhere from a few months to a few years.

However, because there wasn’t much in the way of resemblance between Ryan and Gosling, to begin with, these noninvasive treatments could only take him so far. For a radical change, Ryan may have wanted to go with a combination of non-invasive and traditional plastic surgery procedures. Perhaps a mix of Botox and chin surgery or maybe even cheek augmentation.

Depending on each individual patient’s aesthetic goals and unique physique, one approach to cosmetic enhancement may work out better than another. It’s important to review all possible options before settling on a procedure and to know exactly what to expect from your results. As an experienced plastic surgeon in Chicago, Dr. Placik always explores various options with patients in order to determine the ideal treatment.

At Body Sculptor, patients never have to fear to look in the mirror after a treatment and not recognizing their own reflection. We believe in giving patients natural yet stunning results that enhance each patient’s own inherent beauty and unique characteristics. And while a patient may have a specific look in mind when coming in for a consultation, not everyone will look their best with Ryan Gosling’s chin, J-Lo’s buttocks or Angelina Jolie’s lips.

Dr. Placik will help you choose the procedure that will be optimal for you. Call us today to schedule a consultation so we can discuss your best plastic surgery and cosmetic treatment options.
