Questions About Skin Rejuvenation
What are the benefits of skin rejuvenation?
Laser skin rejuvenation does not remove any of your skin. The laser treatment is quick and there is no recovery period-you can resume your normal activities immediately after treatment. There is a very low risk of any complications and minimal discomfort during the procedure. Over a several month period, you will experience progressive improvements to your skin. Laser rejuvenation can be performed in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures to achieve an optimum youthful appearance.
How does skin rejuvenation work?
Collagen is a natural protein that keeps your skin smooth. As you age, the collagen breaks down, causing wrinkles and lines. Laser skin rejuvenation works by stimulating collagen production. As the new collagen is generated, your lines and wrinkles begin to fade. Even if your skin has become damaged by years of sun exposure and now appears discolored, this procedure can help. Laser rejuvenation gives your skin a refreshed appearance and a smoother texture while evening skin tone and even reducing pore size. If you suffered from acne in your younger years, skin rejuvenation can help reduce those scars as well.
How many treatments does it take?
Laser skin rejuvenation happens gradually. Most patients need four to six treatments, which are spaced about three to five weeks apart. Many patients return for touch up treatments after their initial session is over. The laser can be used to rejuvenate many body areas besides your face such as your hands, chest and neck.
What results can I expect?
You should see a gradual decrease in your skin’s overall redness and discoloration. If you have visible aging caused by sun exposure, you can expect to see your skin become smoother, with a decrease in fine wrinkles, faded sunspots and reduction in the size of your pores. If your skin is prone to breakouts and you are taking medication, you may no longer need that medication.
What does the treatment feel like?
Each laser skin rejuvenation treatment takes anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes. You will likely feel a mild amount of discomfort during the procedure. When it is completed, your skin may appear red and flushed, and your skin’s tiny capillaries may be more visible. If you have brown spots, they will appear darker initially. These changes will fade gradually with time. Your skin will feel smoother after the first treatment; however, six treatments are performed for optimum results.
Who are the best candidates for this treatment?
- Any man or woman who experiences flushing and/or redness of their skin
- Anyone with early aging changes and sun damage, who wants healthier, more youthful-appearing skin
- Those who don’t want to take time off to heal from laser resurfacing or chemical peels
- Active people who don’t want the treatments to interfere with social or outdoor activities
