How soon after labiaplasty can I resume having sex?
The answer to this question differs from person to person, due to individual healing rates and comfort levels. However, as a general rule, labiaplasty patients can resume sexual activity about six weeks after the procedure. This is about the same interval recommended after childbirth, and, like after childbirth, your individual sense of assurance and pain or discomfort levels should be your guide. Many patients have reported waiting about eight weeks before attempting sexual activity.
The type of incision you have can be a factor, as well. The wedge method creates an incision across the width of the labia, which can be more subject to strain injury than the trim method. If you have any concerns, don’t hesitate to consult with Dr. Placik.
How can labiaplasty improve my sex life?
Many women seek labiaplasty to eliminate discomfort or pain caused by the size of their labia minora. Some have labiaplasty to repair damage or enlargement of the labia minora that occurs as a result of pregnancy and childbirth. If you suffer from painful intercourse due to enlargement or damage to the inner labia, labiaplasty might be a good option for you.
If you are uncomfortable with the size or shape of your labia, a labiaplasty can make you more comfortable in intimate situations, adding to your self-confidence during sex. Whether labiaplasty will improve your sex life is uncertain, though, and depends entirely on your individual situation.
What risks are associated with labiaplasty?
The risks associated with labiaplasty are similar to those associated with any major surgery. These include abnormal bleeding, infection, scarring, and risks associated with anesthesia, particularly if you opt for general anesthesia. Other possible side effects include changes in skin sensation (you could become more or less sensitive), uneven appearance of the edge of the labia, or uneven color of the labia edge.
