Forehead Lift

The forehead lift procedure involves exactly what the name implies. It lifts the forehead, and with it the brows and tissues around the eyes, to give you a more rested, alert, youthful appearance. It is done most often to improve such facial characteristics as drooping eyebrows (tired look), also called "hooding", or drooping tissue at the outer part of the eyes (contributing to "crow's feet"), a furrowed forehead (wrinkled look) and frown lines (angry look). The outcome provides smoother forehead skin and softer lines between the eyes. Often, a forehead lift is performed in conjunction with a facelift (meloplasty).

You are a good candidate for a forehead lift if you have sagging brows, tissue that hangs down at the outer part of the eyelids, or horizontal wrinkling of the forehead. Deep furrows between the eyes can also be reduced through a forehead lift or Botox ®. To determine if a forehead lift would be of benefit, you should discuss the procedure with Dr. Placik.

The procedure may involve using small incisions in the scalp through which an endoscope is passed or making an incision across the top of your scalp a few inches behind your hairline. However, if you have a high hairline, the incision may be made right at the hairline. The forehead muscles are appropriately altered and then the forehead skin is gently pulled upward. Gauze padding will be placed across the incision and your head is wrapped with a compression bandage. The surgery takes one to two hours to complete. When indicated, a forehead lift may be combined with eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) and/or a facelift (meloplasty).

Following your surgery, some bruising and swelling are natural and will decrease in a week to 10 days. Bandages are removed one or two days following surgery and sutures removed in 10 days to two weeks. Until that time, they will be hidden inside or at your hairline. Most patients resume their normal routines within a week after surgery, but heavy work or exercise should be deferred for a longer period of time.
