Cosmetic Non-Invasive Ear
Deformity Correction (EarWell System)
Chicago, Illinois
Ear deformities are one of the most frequently overlooked infant disfigurements, occurring in 20% and 35% of all births. To a certain degree, ear deformities have continously failed to capture the attention they deserve; because, until recently, there was no available, reliable, safe, non-invasive, non-surgical procedure to treat them.
There are some pediatricians out there who think of outer ear deformities as minor aesthetic irregularities that will either self-correct or can be corrected through plastic surgery later on in life. That being said, studies have shown that ear deformities can have a negative impact on a child’s physical and emotional development.
Children suffering from facial abnormalities, especially ear deformities, tend to suffer peer hazing, teasing and abuse. Consequently, children facing this ridicule often exhibit low self-esteem, high anxiety, elevated social isolation and emotional withdrawal.
While a wait-and-see approach isn't always the wrong choice it can be very risky. A study conducted has shown that while some ear deformities will self-correct, others will remain the same and in some cases may even worsen. Even if the deformity does correct itself, waiting until it does or the child is old enough for surgery can mean years of teasing, ridicule, and possibly abuse.
