What are the risks associated with Mastoplexy?

There are certain risks you should be aware of before consenting to have breast lift surgery. During your initial consultation, Dr. Placik will go over all the risks, side effects, and complications possible with this procedure and make sure you fully understand all the information. Anesthesia reaction, infection, bleeding, loss of nipple sensitivity, scarring, tissue damage, and asymmetry are a few of the rare but possible side effects.

Am I a good candidate for the breast lift procedure?

Patients who have a breast lift procedure should have some sagging in the breasts, sagging skin, a lack of firmness or fullness, or downward-pointing nipples. The results of a breast lift may be compromised with pregnancy and breastfeeding, so patients who are planning on having children may choose to wait until they are done with childbearing or need additional lifting following the pregnancy, weight gain and loss. Good candidates are also patients that don't have a history of scarring and who have realistic expectations.

What is the healing process like following breast lift surgery?

Breast lift surgery patients will heal differently, so it can be difficult to set a timetable for healing without a thorough evaluation. If implants are utilized, the recovery may be slightly prolonged. In general, patients will need to wear a special support bra for about 3 weeks and will be asked to refrain from strenuous activity. Stitches placed under the skin should dissolve. Patients can expect mild discomfort and soreness, which can be addressed with pain medication if necessary. Swelling and numbness is to be expected and can last from one month to several months. Patients may be up and around the very next day, although normal daily activities may not be resumed for 3 – 4 days, low impact exercises resumed at 2 weeks and high impact or resistance exercises initiated between 3-6 weeks after surgery.

Is Mastopexy a painful procedure?

Actually, Mastopexy is not a notoriously painful procedure. Of course you will feel nothing during the procedure itself, thanks to anesthesia. Post-operatively, patients report discomfort and soreness, but very few patients report difficulty with pain. Adhering to Dr. Placik’s post-operative instructions is also essential in controlling discomfort.

Where will the incisions and scars be placed for the Mastopexy procedure?

During the Mastopexy procedure, the incisions may vary tremendously depending on the amount of lifting required. For minimal lifts, the incisions are placed very inconspicuously for barely noticeable scarring. Incisions may be placed around the border of the areola, either partially or circumferentially, down the center of the breast directly beneath the areola and/or in the natural folds of the breast, depending on your breast size, the amount of lifting, and Dr. Placik’s preference. Breast lift scars should fade dramatically over time.
