Fat Injections: the New Trend

Injecting fat into the skin as part of a cosmetic procedure is nothing new. After all, fat is the best material to augment soft tissue, as it creates the most natural-looking end result. That being said, injecting large amounts of fat into one area has always been problematic. Because these new deposits of fat are too large to establish their own blood supplies, procedures relying on fat injections offered only a temporary solution for most patients.

A new technique called microfat grafting might just solve this problem. In microfat grafting, tiny amounts of fat are injected in a series of layers; this allows surrounding blood vessels to grow into the new fat. Because of this growth, we are able to achieve permanent or near-permanent results for patients seeking facial improvements and enhancements.

Although microfat grafting requires special expertise, patience, and precision on the part of the plastic surgeon, you may find that the results are worth it.

Reasons to Have a Breast Reduction

It seems that a wealth of information exists about breast augmentation and breast implants, but what about breast reduction (reduction mammaplasty)? Who seeks out this procedure, and why might it be right for you?

Women with large breasts sometimes suffer from physical discomfort, including back pain, neck pain, trouble breathing, irritation from bra straps, and more. Additionally, many women feel self-conscious about the size of their breasts and are unable to fully participate in some physical activities. At our office, we consult with many women seeking to have excess breast fat, tissue, and skin removed. Most of the time, these women walk away with shapely breasts, renewed confidence, and a greater degree of physical comfort than they had before. For many, having a breast reduction alleviates problems that would have compounded or grown worse with time.

How Nipples Become Inverted and How to Fix Them

Frequently, women (and, sometimes, men) express deep insecurities about having inverted nipples. Although genetics is the most common cause of inverted nipples, the condition can also be cause by other factors, from breast trauma to breastfeeding difficulties to other medical conditions. Regardless of cause, fibers within the breast pull the nipple inward to varying degrees, causing nipples that range from mildly to severely inverted. Some people are born with inverted nipples, whereas others encounter this problem as adults.

Once a person determines that his or her inverted nipples are not a symptom of a more serious medical problem, that person might want to research treatment options. Some people try non-surgery options, such as nipple piercings and nipple massage, but these treatments often do not product permanent results. Fortunately, thanks to available technology, inverted nipples are relatively easy to fix through surgery, regardless of severity. Here at the office of Dr. Placik, we work closely with patients to provide surgical treatment that is comfortable and permanent.
