Labiaplasty Misconceptions
- Labiaplasty is not done for pornographic reasons. A woman does not bring a magazine to Dr. Placik and say “I want a designer vagina like that”. It is done to reduce physical discomfort and emotional embarrassment for a woman whose labia are too large and prominent.
- Labiaplasty does not necessarily reduce sensation in the area. Any surgery MAY cause some numbness, usually temporary, if it affects any nerves in the treatment area. That is just a risk of all surgery. It applies to breast augmentation too, but has not stopped it from being the most popular cosmetic surgery in the U.S.
- The purpose of a labiaplasty is not to increase a woman’s sexual pleasure. That might in some cases be a byproduct of the procedure, if the woman’s large labia had been reducing it.
- Labiaplasty is just another way for a cosmetic surgeon to make money off a woman’s feelings of inadequacy or insecurity. A woman’s sense of confidence might indeed be increased after any cosmetic surgery, and that is one of the benefits of having cosmetic procedures done. Probably every cosmetic surgeon is pleased to see a patient grow in confidence and sense of being attractive. However, the purpose of a labiaplasty is to correct an inherited defect, or a result of injury. It is a type of plastic surgery which reconstructs a part of the body, just as a nose job does, or a tummy tuck.

Reasons to Have Liposuction
Since it was first introduced, liposuction has been improved and refined, and made easier both for the surgeon and the patient. The body areas it is most often performed on are:
- Upper arms
- Upper back
- Neck
- Hips
- Buttocks
- Saddlebags
- Thighs
Liposculpture, or liposelection, are ways to fine-tune the fat removal, so as to highlight the abs, for instance, or the pecs. This gives an attractive muscular silhouette.
How Long do Results Last?
The body does not regenerate fat cells once they are removed. So your treated area(s) will not regain the weight by simply regrowing the cells. But if you were to abandon your new healthy lifestyle and diet, neighboring fat cells could expand, holding the excess fat. And other body areas could gain weight.
For that reason, it’s best to do more than just lose the weight and then have liposuction. Go further in your self-transformation, and stick to a nutritious and low-fat diet, and regular exercise. Once you’re accustomed to it, you’ll be so proud of yourself and so pleased with your slimmer new shape.

Injectable Fillers
How Injectables Work
The skin has three main layers. The visible top layer (epithelium) is mostly composed of dead skin cells, which have risen from the deeper layer where they were created, and now are about to be discarded, making way for more new cells. Lotions and creams are helpful for moistening the top layer but don’t be fooled by lotion labels which claim to put collagen or elastin into the skin. That can’t be done with a lotion.
It must be done with an injection, because it’s in the middle layer, the dermis, where skin cells are made, and where the skin’s surface is supported. There is a matrix of collagen and elastin which is strong in young skin but weakens as we age. Injectable fillers are designed to plump up that matrix somehow (different methods) to give you back that smooth young-looking skin you used to have. They are well-named as “liquid facelifts”!
- Restylane® – Uses hyaluronic acid to smooth both fine lines and larger wrinkles
- Radiesse® -- Uses tiny biocompatible particles to help support the skin and give it a smoother surface, lasting longer than some other fillers
- Juvederm® -- Replaces the skin’s hyaluronic acid and smoothes out frown lines and smile lines
- Hylaform® -- Another filler which uses hyaluronic acid and can give result lasting as long as a year
- Sculptra® -- Uses a substance called poly-L-lactic acid, and can give excellent results for as long as two years
